Game 124 - Air Force at San Jose State

November 19 at CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, CA
CBS Sports Network

For some reason, I thought I heard the name "Pierce Westonhammer" when the play-by-play man referred to a senior defensive back for Air Force, which meant we were going to add a new member to our all-name team.

It turns out the young man's name is Weston Steelhammer.

But I like both names, so we're adding each to the Hendrick Ekpe All Stars. Pierce/Weston's late interception sealed a 41-38 win for the Falcons.

Game 121 - East Tennessee State at Wofford

September 24 at Gibbs Stadium in Spartanburg, SC
Wofford IMG/espn3.com

It was a dominant effort by the host Terriers, who rushed for 350 yards (Lorenzo Long had nearly half, 156, and a pair of touchdowns) and held overmatched ETSU to just 76 total yards in a 31-0 win.

Since losing to Mississippi, Wofford has out-scored its last two opponents, including Division II Johnson C. Smith, 90-0.

* We traveled to the sideline to add our newest member of the 100 Game Season all-name team, the Hendrick Ekpe All Stars, as Wofford sideline reporter Van Hipp joins the squad.

* Also had a pretty solid top 4 football phrases from the play-by-play team.

4. "Both teams can't get their bearings about them"
3. "He pooched the punt up"
2. "He has a nose for the quarterback"
1. "Meat and potatoes football"

Michael Reghl and Jerod Cherry put together what I think will always be history's greatest three-hour performance of saying the word football.

I'm so excited to display the results, but first: Amanda Sauer made her debut as the first female head referee & that's a huge thing. And also Tarik Cohen looked like Barry Sanders' little brother Harry Sanders in helping N.C. A&T pull the upset with a four-overtime, 39-36 victory.

But this was the Michael and Jerod Show.

Gentlemen?

A ridiculous few nights of football phrases, so we're going to make a big list of ones said during this game - a 45-34 Florida State win - and Sunday's Texas-Notre Dame, two-OT thriller.

Game 113 - Notre Dame at Texas

September 4 at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, TX

One of my favorite things about watching this sport and writing down what people say about it, is the amount of times the word "football" is actually used.

Let's take a look at Sunday's count from Joe Tessitore and Todd Blackledge:

First quarter

Third

Fourth

Game 112 - Oklahoma vs. Houston

September 3 at NRG Stadium in Houston, TX

Couple quick things from sideline reporter Tom Luginbill:

"They've been cautiously optimistic about their pursuit attempts."

"A difference maker of a momentum swing."

Game 111 - Ball State at Georgia State

September 2 at Georgia Dome in Atlanta, GA

Georgia State is coming off its first bowl appearance in just its third year in Division 1, but year four did not start well.

The Panthers led 14-7 very early in the second quarter, then allowed 24 unanswered points as Ball State won 31-21.

A lot didn't go well for GSU in this one, most notably the 325 rushing yards allowed (James Gilbert rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns) and the 77 rushing yards gained. The Panthers had -2 yards on the ground at halftime, so technically the second half was a dominant effort in comparison.

Some good things for Georgia State:

* Redshirt freshman Aaron Winchester didn't start at quarterback, but he did collect 59 yards on eight carries (7.4 average), mostly on designed QB draws, and had a nice touchdown in the fourth quarter for GSU's final points. I thought starter Conner Manning was fine under center (21-for-32, 163 yards with a TD & INT), but I'm betting Winchester becomes the starter at some point.

Remember: Sun Belt Conference player of the year Nick Arbuckle graduated, so GSU has to fill a huge hole in 2016.

* Cornerback Jerome Smith ended each of Ball State's first two possessions with interceptions, including a 48-yard return for a TD on the fourth play of the game for the first points of the season.

I'm interested to see how GSU handles these next three games and avoids the very real possibility of starting 0-4.

Next week they visit Air Force, which in the last two seasons has won 8 and 10 games under Troy Calhoun and is currently on a 12-game winning streak at Falcon Stadium (last loss in November, 2013). That's followed by trips to Wisconsin and Appalachian State, which should've won at No. 9 Tennessee on Thursday.

Game 110 - South Carolina at Vanderbilt

September 1 at Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, TN
ESPN

There honestly wasn't a single, memorable moment in this game until Elliott Fry hit a 55-yard field goal (with a handful of yards to spare) with 35 seconds left to give South Carolina a 13-10 victory.

The Gamecocks were shut out in the first half, but the visitors' defense ended up being even better, holding the Commodores scoreless over the final three quarters and to just 242 total yards to win the season opener.

Fry also nailed a 48-yarder to put Carolina on the scoreboard in the third quarter, then capped a seven-play drive with his game-winner.

Football phrases

Mark Jones and Rod Gilmore are a solid broadcast team, but on Thursday still provided an equally-solid top 6 of nonsense:

6. "That's a hat on a hat"
5. "The college football landscape"
4. "Trickeration" (not a word)
3. "A college football blueblood"
2. "Pin their ears back"
1. "Big boy football"

100 Game Season: Season 2

After reaching our goal and watching 108 football games during the 2015 season, we're excited to bring you season 2.

The new goal is simply to watch as many games as possible from September, 2016-February, 2017 and just add to the total.

Game 100 - Kansas State vs. Arkansas

Our milestone game was a great showcase for Arkansas running back Alex Collins.

The junior back ran for 185 yards and three touchdowns, averaging eight yards per carry in the Razorbacks' 45-23 win. He also became just the third SEC back to rush for 1,000 yards in three consecutive seasons (Herschel Walker, Darren McFadden).

We've basically had three consecutive days of one-sided bowl games. Here is every winner from New Years Eve through this ARK-KSU game:

12/31 Houston 38-24
12/31 Clemson 37-17
12/31 Alabama 38-0
1/1 Tennessee 45-6
1/1 Ohio State 44-28
1/1 Michigan 41-7
1/1 Stanford 45-16
1/1 Mississippi 48-20
1/2 Georgia 24-17
1/2 Arkansas 45-23

Average margin of victory: 25.5 points.

Bowl season!

* This could be our final Hendrick Ekpe All Star of the season, but if so, we finished the year strong. Please welcome Arkansas wide receiver Jeremy Sprinkle.
